EDMONTON, December 8, 2011 – Canadian Western Bank (CWB) is proud to donate $216,246.30 to local Big
Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) organizations across Western Canada through its 2011 The Greater Interest GIC®
campaign. Since partnering with BBBS in 2008, CWB has donated over $845,000 to help facilitate meaningful
mentorship opportunities for Canada’s youth.
"We’re thrilled to continue supporting our partners at Big Brothers Big Sisters through The Greater Interest GIC®
campaign. This innovative investment approach offers two distinct benefits. Our clients benefit from a
competitive rate on their guaranteed investment and local BBBS organizations benefit from the corporate
donation CWB makes to fund the growth of their mentorship programs,” says Angela Saveraux, CWB's
Community Investment Manager. “What started as a unique way of giving back to local BBBS organizations has
grown into an integrated partnership; in fact, many of our employees commit their time year-round as volunteer
mentors.”
"It's refreshing to partner with an organization that’s not afraid to roll up its sleeves and make an impact at a local
level,” said Joel Porter, Vice-President, Revenue Development, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. “CWB’s
involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters has been fundamental to helping us build meaningful mentorships in
our local communities. They understand our goals and are there to help us achieve them.”
During the campaign, based on every dollar clients invested in The Greater Interest GIC®, CWB made a donation
of 1/8% to the local BBBS organization in the community where the deposits were raised. CWB’s Internet
banking division, Canadian Direct Financial (CDF) www.canadiandirectfinancial.com, offered a similar
community-based GIC product to clients across Canada named the KeyGiving GIC™. Based on every dollar
clients invested in the KeyGiving GIC™, CDF made a donation of 1/8% to the BBBS national office.
