Canadian Western Bank launches its Greater Interest GIC campaign to support local charities

EDMONTON, September 6, 2011 – Canadian Western Bank (CWB) is proud to further build on its commitment
to local communities by launching The Greater Interest GIC® campaign for a fourth consecutive year. Between
September 1, 2011 and October 31, 2011, based on every dollar that clients invest in The Greater Interest GIC®,
CWB will make a donation of 1/8% back to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the community where the
deposits were raised. Since partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2008, CWB has donated over $625,000 to
help facilitate meaningful mentorship opportunities for Canada’s youth.

“This campaign is always a favourite among our clients and employees because they recognize the positive
impact being made in their local community,” says Angela Saveraux, CWB's Community Investment Manager.
“Canadian Western Bank is proud to continue supporting the tireless efforts and important work of Big Brothers
Big Sisters organizations across Canada. Empowering youth to reach their full potential is extremely important
and we look forward to continued success as we help facilitate this through the Bank’s growing list of community
investment initiatives."

CWB has broadened the distribution of its community-based GIC product to clients across Canada by offering the
Key Giving GIC™ through CWB’s Internet banking division, Canadian Direct Financial (CDF)
www.canadiandirectfinancial.com. Based on every dollar that clients invest in the Key Giving GIC™, CDF will
make a donation of 1/8% to the national office of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"Once again, Canadian Western Bank is stepping up to support our front-line, intensive work with some of
Canada's most vulnerable and at-risk children from coast-to-coast,” said Joel Porter, Vice-President, Revenue
Development, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. “With such a solid and competitive investment product, we're
sure to achieve very significant financial help for our local agencies again this year."

To help spread the word, The Greater Interest GIC® campaign will be featured on Facebook for the first time.
Visitors to the “Canadian Western Bank Group – In the Community” Fanpage can participate in an interactive
online experience while receiving up-to-date information on the campaign’s progress. Individuals who choose to
