Greater Interest GIC campaign results in $100,000 donation

EDMONTON, December 30, 2016 – Canadian Western Bank (CWB) is pleased to donate $102,412 to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) agencies across Western Canada thanks to its The Greater Interest GIC®. The 2016 campaign marked CWB’s ninth year offering this unique investment product through which CWB has donated more than $2.1 million to children’s charities since 2008.

"We’re proud to offer a product tied directly to our community efforts,” said Angela Saveraux, CWB’s senior manager, corporate communications, who oversees CWB’s community investment program. “Over the past nine years, our employees have had the opportunity to talk to clients about their financial needs while also drawing attention to the value of mentorship. As our relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters has grown, we’ve seen firsthand the important work they’re doing to help match kids with a healthy role model that will help them learn and grow into a valuable contributor in our communities. It’s been incredibly rewarding.”

The Greater Interest GIC, offered during the month of September, gives clients the opportunity to invest in a guaranteed investment product with a competitive rate-of-return, while making a positive impact in local communities. Based on every dollar invested in The Greater Interest GIC, CWB makes a corporate donation to the local BBBS organization in the community where the investment was made. This year, clients had the option to choose from three rates based on terms ranging from 15 to 27 months.

“Over the years, funds raised through The Greater Interest GIC campaign have created or sustained more than 4,500 positive mentoring relationships,” said Peter Coleridge, National President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. “We were thrilled to recognize Canadian Western Bank for their long standing support this year, with our Canadian National Community Partnership Award. The well-deserved honour was given to CWB for their outstanding support of our local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in Western Canada.”
